New product provides reliable alignment and measurement capabilities for extreme environments

24 May 2007

John Crane has responded to the need for a rugged, accurate and reliable measurement and alignment system with the launch of LASE-A-LIGN EX ™- Quality assured to the highest standards this new alignment system has been specifically designed for use in hazardous and potentially explosive environments. This makes it especially suited to the petrochemical, oil, gas and pharmaceutical industries where it can be used on various types of rotating equipment such as motors, pumps, turbines, compressors, gearboxes and blowers.
The system is designed to minimize the risks involved when undertaking on-site operations in extreme environments. An extremely durable design makes the stainless steel and anodised aluminium unit resistant to a host of external conditions. It is impact, corrosion, water, dust and leak resistant, approved to both IP66 and IP67, and it also complies with the latest ATEX standards (II 2 G EX classification: EEx ib IIC T4) with regard to such hazards as static electricity, electrical sparks, mechanical knocks and friction.
In addition to its horizontal and vertical shaft alignment capabilities, LASE-A-LIGN EX ™ also provides the user with a range of additional programs to measure straightness/twist, vertical and flange-mounted machines, alignments of Cardan-shaft-coupled/centre offset machines and angular error between two rotating shafts. This greatly increases the flexibility of LASE-A-LIGN EX ™ and makes the unit ideal for both installation and maintenance work.
“LASE-A-LIGN EX ™ has also been approved by the international testing and certification body Nemko AS, which is further independent proof of its value,” says John Crane Product Manager Peter Simpson. “It has been thoroughly tested in the most demanding environments to ensure that it meets the very highest standards and that’s why we are able to offer a four-year warranty.”
