Heavy-duty hexapods for various travels, loads and velocities

17 May 2015

Physik Instrumente (PI) is now offering a series of six pre-configured heavy-duty hexapods for precision assembly.

The six-axis positioning systems are available for travel ranges of 220mm on the XY plane and 100mm in the Z direction or 340mm on the XY plane and 205mm in the Z direction. The maximum tip/tilt or rotational angle is between 30 and 60°.

Three drive screws with different pitches allow velocities of 20 to 50mm/s with loads between 400 and 1,000kg. Even at high velocities, the heavy-duty Hexapods achieve step sizes of around 2µm and a repeatability of ±2 to ±5µm.

The C-887 digital controller can handle six hexapod axes and two additional motorised single axes. It features vector control, a stable pivot point freely selectable in space and LabVIEW support. Position values can be entered simply as Cartesian coordinates. Optional software for avoiding collisions in restricted workspace is also available.
