Compact Ethernet switch delivers high bandwidth in harsh environments

27 June 2015

Siemens has expanded its portfolio of rugged network components to include the Ruggedcom RSG920P, a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch for small cabinets with high bandwidth requirements.

The device offers exceptional reliability even when faced with extremities of temperature, vibration and shock, making it ideal for transportation systems and oil and gas applications.

With 20 Gigabit Ethernet ports, the Ruggedcom RSG920P can supply high bandwidths and is ready to accommodate future network expansions. Four SFP slots provide flexibility in uplink distances and bandwidth options with support for Gigabit as well as Fast Ethernet fibre SFPs.

Due to its small size, the switch can be mounted directly on a DIN-Rail. Storing application data, firmware and device configuration for commissioning and field maintenance is simple with the Micro SD card slot.

With 4 PoE interfaces supplying up to 120W of power, the Ruggedcom RSG920P can accommodate various PoE devices such as PTZ (pan–tilt–zoom) cameras, intercom devices, WLAN Access Points and Bluetooth sensors.

Its Smart Power Management feature prioritises the most important network devices when demand for power exceeds supply.
