Revolvo has developed a new range of ceramic coated deep groove ball, and cylindrical roller bearings, which protect against the damaging effects of electrical erosion in rotating equipment such as railway traction motors.

Split roller bearings (SRBs) have been specified for a refurbished icebreaker’s diesel electric propulsion system, recently refitted in the Ukraine. The SRBs – supplied by UK manufacturer, Revolvo – were chosen because they are quickly and easily changed in-situ, preventing unplanned layovers or dry docking, should a bearing need replacing when the vessel is in service.

The advantages provided by split roller bearings in delivering greatly reduced downtime compared with the performance of solid bearings are well documented: savings of 80 percent or more are achieved with SRB types on installation/disassembly due to their split-to-the-shaft configuration. 

UK bearing manufacturer Revolvo is bucking the current trend of limited availability in large bearing sizes and offering both standard and bespoke bearings on very competitive lead times. The new service offering is already helping to extend the operational life of older plant and equipment, and reduce downtime with shorter maintenance periods for other items of strategic, production critical machines.
