Magnomatics, a specialist working in the field of magnetic gear technology, is currently building proof of concept generators to demonstrate the application of its novel Pseudo Direct Drive (PDD) technology to wind turbines.

Magnomatics, the Sheffield based company specialising in the development of novel contact-less magnetic transmissions, has appointed the former president of Rolls Royce Gas Turbine Operations, Michael Lloyd (pictured), as chairman. Dr Lloyd has extensive knowledge of the industrial sector, as well as considerable experience in the defence, nuclear and aerospace sectors, all of which are important markets for Magnomatics.

The inventors of an innovative magnetic drive system believe that it is poised to challenge conventional practice, hitherto dominated by the geared motor
